El Alcalde Eduardo Paes presenta el jueves la pista central del Centro Olímpico de Tenis, dónde ocurrirá el primer evento-test del Parque Olímpico Río 2016, en Barra da Tijuca. Gracias al evento, la ciudad tendrá un moderno complejo de tenis, apto a recibir grandes competiciones nacionales e internacionales. Durante los Juegos Río 2016, el local recibirá las competiciones de tenis olímpico y paralímpico, además de los juegos de fútbol-5. Pasado el súper evento, la instalación se queda como parte del legado de los Juegos para la ciudad, transformado en centro de entrenamiento para atletas de alto rendimiento y jóvenes prevenientes de proyectos sociales que tengan interés en entrenarse en el deporte.
En el primer evento-test del Parque Olímpico, que será el viernes y el sábado, el Centro Olímpico de tenis recibirá el Brasil Masters Cup 2015, reuniendo 74 tenistas – de los cuales 8 atletas de tenis en silla de ruedas y estará abierto solamente a invitados. Durante el evento serán utilizadas la pista central y nueve más para partidos. Además de terreno de juego, serán testados por el Comité Rio 2016 y por el Ayuntamiento el sistema de resultados, la actuación de los voluntarios dentro y fuera de la instalación, y la ‘última milla’, entre la estación Rio 2 del BRT Transcarioca y el Parque Olímpico. El tramo se hará a pie, y tendrá la orientación de la agrupación de tráfico CET-Río y de la Guardia Civil.
Para los Juegos Olímpicos y Paralímpicos Río 2016, el Centro Olímpico de Tenis tendrá 16 pistas de cemento verde. Después de los Juegos de 2016, se quedarán 9 como legado. La pista principal tiene capacidad para 10 mil personas y será permanente; la segunda más grande ofrece 5 mil plazas y será temporal, y la tercera, con 3 mil plazas, se quedará tras los Juegos, pero sin las gradas. De las 13 pistas pequeñas, 7 serán utilizadas para partidos y las 6 otras para calentamiento y entrenamiento. La instalación está siendo construida por el Ayuntamiento, con recursos del Gobierno Federal.
