(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame reaches Metro Vancouver today with 2 days to go until the Olympic Games.
Yesterday highlights include the Vancouver Olympic torch relay traveling through 8 towns and being carried by seven Olympians as it departed Surrey and made its way to Richmond, home of the Vancouver International Airport.
This morning, the torch relay departs Bowen Island and heads through the town of Horseshoe Bay.
In North Vancouver (District), three Olympians carry the flame and a welcome celebration takes place at Lynn Valley Town Centre with festivities including a performance by the Lions Gate Chorus.
Two torchbearers are set to carry the flame by sky riding from the Grouse Mountain Sky Ride to the top of Grouse Mountain.
In Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, torchbearer Ocean Hyland will carry the torch in a canoe.
Six Olympians and Canadian astronaut Julie Payette will run with the Olympic Flame through the city of North Vancouver.
The torch progresses through Squamish (Xwemelch’stn) before reaching the final destination point of the day in West Vancouver located within the Metro Vancouver district. Together with the District of North Vancouver and City of North Vancouver it forms the North Shore municipalities
Swimming Olympian Graham Smith will carry the flame through the city that will be one of the venues for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
A welcome celebration will take place at West Vancouver Community Centre Spirit Square and includes a performance by the Chor Leoni Men’s Choir.
Tomorrow, the Olympic Flame travels through 9 towns and will be carried nine Olympians. The torch relay will end the day reaching Vancouver and being carried by award-winning singer/songwriters Jann Arden and Micheal Buble.
