(ATR) Some of the biggest names to ever play hockey for Russia filled the Bolshoi Ice Dome on Monday night—but not to play.
The legends were part of the 146-member strong inaugural class of the Russian Hockey Hall of Fame. The venue is yet to be built, but will be located in Moscow.
Hockey House hosted the ceremony for more than 300 people. Hockey House is the International Ice Hockey Federation’ hospitality venue and is located in Bolshoi Ice Dome.
The House is located next to the Dome’s practice rink, allowing guests to get an up close look at teams as they practice. Perhaps coincidentally, Team Russia was on the ice for the predominantly Russian crowd.
In attendance were Vladislav Tretiak (inductee number one), International Ice Hockey Federation President Rene Fasel, deputy NHL commissioner Bill Daly, NHL Players Association Executive Director Donald Fehr, Russian Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov and others.
On the menu were a trio of salads: mousse of fennel, panzanella and chicken Caesar salad. Following that was a choice of filet of beef with a port wine sauce, "stripes of chicken breast" and fried perch. Dessert was a buffet of waffles, ice cream and "tipsy" cherries.
Russian red, white and sparkling wines were poured.
