TheInternational Press Association saysChristian Constantin, owner and president of FC Sion, is behind the potential bid.Sion, capital of Switzerland's canton of Valais, has never hosted an Olympics.
This would however mark Sion's fourth attempt at bidding for the Winter Olympics, having unsuccessfully bid for the Games in 1976, 2002, and 2006.
In March of last year, a Swiss-wide referendum rejected a proposed bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics in St. Mortiz and Davos.
Swiss broadcasting company Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen says a press conference will be held in spring of 2015 to clarify details about the proposed 2026 bid.
The presser, according Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen, will coincide with the 200th anniversary of the date in which Valais entered the Swiss confederation.
Aside from a proposed bid from Sapporo, Japan, it is unclear what other cities may be in the running for the 2026 Winter Games.
The IOC will select a host city for the 2026 Olympics during its 131st Extraordinary Session in 2019.
