(ATR) The first chance for Brazilians to buy tickets to the 2016 Olympics has opened.
Brazilian residents can visit theRio 2016 ticket websiteand register for the first lottery for Olympic tickets. Registration for the lottery will be open until Apr. 30 with the initial results to be released in June.
A second lottery for Brazilian residents will begin in July. Brazilians must have registered for the first lottery to be eligible to obtain tickets in the second lottery. Priority for the second lottery will be for consumers who did not get tickets in the first phase.
In October direct online sales will begin, and in person sales at Rio 2016 box offices will start in June 2016.
When purchasing tickets, no ticket packages will be available. As an alternative, Rio 2016 has developed a "quiz" on the ticket website to help consumers identify combinations of tickets that best suit their interests.
Brazilians cannot register for the lottery until they have completed signing up for the Rio ticket portal. The portal launched on Jan. 15and isthe first step for spectators to secure tickets to the 2016 Olympics.
According to a Rio 2016 spokesperson, there will be 700 competition sessions where tickets will be available for purchase. Brazilians will have access to 70 percent of these tickets.
Half of all tickets available, around 3.8 million tickets, will be priced at 70 reais, around $21, or less. A total of 7.5 million tickets will be sold for the 2016 Olympics, more than one million more than London 2012.

For international spectators, the list of authorized ticket resellers (ATRs) is now available on the Rio 2016 website.
International ticket purchasers are expected to contact the ATR working with their specific national Olympic committee for more information about ticket sales. Certain NOCs will sell their allocation of tickets directly. Some ATRs will begin ticket sales today, but not necessarily all.
Rio 2016 will also offer a service that will check the websites of ATRs so that international consumers do not buy tickets from non-approved ATRs. Consumers can enter the website from which they are planning on buying tickets from to check the authenticity of the ATR.
