The 15-player U.S. National Team roster was announced in October 2019 following the selection trials held in Oklahoma City.
No changes are currently planned for the USA Softball Olympic roster, which was originally announced on 6 October 2019, months prior to the announcement that the Tokyo 2020 Games would be postponed to 2021, USA Softball confirms.
"USA Softball, with the support of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), stands by the selection of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Softball Team roster that was announced following the Olympic Team Selection Trials in October, 2019. USA Softball will continue to stand beside the members of the Olympic softball team roster in their preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which are now set to be held July 23-August 8, 2021, and we encourage fans to continue to stand beside HER on the team’s new road to the Olympic Games."
USA earned a berth into the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games softball competition by winning the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship 2018 in Chiba, Japan.
The No. 1 in the WBSC Softball World Ranking held the Olympic Selection trials from 1-6 October 2019 in Oklahoma City, with 29 athletes competing for 15 spots in the roster. On 6 October 2019 USA Softball announced the 15-athlete roster for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The USA Softball Olympic roster includes two Olympians (Cat Osterman and Monica Abbott), 12 members of the 2018 World Championship team and 13 members of the 2019 Pan American Games Gold Medal team.
In February 2020, the team hit the road to open the "Stand Behind Her Tour", a series of competitions and training opportunities for the 2020 USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) to tune-up for the 2020 Olympic Games. However, on 24 March the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Organizing Committee jointly announced the postponement of Tokyo 2020 to 2021, and six days later USA Softball announced the cancellation of all originally scheduled stops on the tour due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
