(ATR) Washington, D.C.’s bid for the 2024 Olympics will include leadership from the city and surrounding area.
Current bid leadership will be joined by 17 board members from the surrounding area including leading sports owners, CEOs, and politicians according to a statement released Thursday.
High profile names from the region include former National Football League commissioner Paul Taglibue, Washington Nationals owner Mark Lerner, former D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams, and area United Way head Rosie Allen-Herring.
The board is lead by chairman and CEO Russ Ramsey and Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis.
"The wonderful people on our team have spent decades in DC, Maryland, and Virginia working to help make our community a better place," Ramsey said in a statement.
"We're fortunate to have them on board and part of the regional effort to bring the Games to Washington. This is a historic opportunity for the Capital Region."
In addition to the leadership announcement, DC 2024 unveiled a new website to promote the bid.
