Follow the Sun: LA 2024 welcomes record-breaking Solar Impulse project to California
LA 2024 welcomed the arrival of the Solar Impulse II to Moffett Airfield, California this weekend, as the zero-fuel aircraft aims to become the first plane to ever circle the world using only the power of the sun touched down in the Golden State.
The experimental solar-powered plane landed in California having completed a mammoth 62 hour flight over the Pacific Ocean from Hawaii – the ninth of thirteen legs on its record breaking round-the-world trip. The innovative project was conceived in Switzerland and brings together industry experts from around the world.
LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: "As we invite the world to follow the sun, the Solar Impulse II is an exciting and inspirational project for everyone at LA 2024. The LA 2024 team is always looking at ways of harnessing California’s leadership in technology and innovation to imagine what’s next. The Solar Impulse II is a perfect example of how through innovation and collaboration we can push boundaries and find ways of developing a future driven by clean and renewable energy.
